 Business Details

The curb appeal of a business location, commercial property or multi-family housing complex is that one factor that can make or break a property in the eyes of a potential tenant, customer or investor. Curb appeal is that very first impression that a person forms when looking at a property for the first time. Vivid color displays in well maintained flower beds is one factor that property managers have found to be vital to the overall aesthetics of a high quality property. In our age of specialization, this established firm has developed a solid reputation as being a “Specialty Landscape Contractor” that plants and maintains flower beds in the Alabama marketplace. The business was established in 1987 and has grown into a profitable specialty landscape contractor with locations in thirteen (13) metropolitan areas in the Southeastern United States. It is the desire of the owner of the business to sell off or to divest the Birmingham and Huntsville offices from the remainder of the established company. Presently, the two markets are served by staff from the Huntsville location and the administrative functions of the business are handled by the Atlanta office. Approximately fifty (50) repeat customers have been developed in the Birmingham and Huntsville markets that will be included in this sales transaction. Each customer or property owner/manager has a custom design proposal prepared for their property that utilizes various flowers and plantings. Each design is developed by trained horticulturists to highlight the features of the specific property to provide the best use of the flower beds and landscaped areas. The planting scheme takes into consideration various floral varieties, flower bed design, environmental conditions and the growing season to provide a high quality “eye-catching” flower bed. The design proposal provides for two distinctive planting periods to provide a colorful flower bed on a year round basis that is attractive and filled with healthy flowering plants. The company includes a monthly maintenance to the flower beds that have been planted to insure a well managed flower bed area for the client. Each month, the flower bed is weeded, fertilized and maintained until the plants are replaced at the next scheduled planting time. The business has been operated as a branch operation of the corporate headquarters in Atlanta. The financial history of the business has included overhead and administration charges that will not be applicable to a stand alone operation which will result by the acquisition of the company. The financial information which is included in this summary is projections based on the expertise and experience from operations of the owner.

The present business model has allowed the company to operate very efficiently with a minimal amount of office space and overhead. Since the invoicing, payroll and other administrative and accounting functions have taken place at the home office in Atlanta; the Alabama locations have been serviced by a small warehouse/yard setting which is a part of a mini-storage complex. Due to the simplicity of the operation, it is not anticipated that purchaser of this established business would need to incur costs associated with a large “back office” operation.

This business would make a good “add-on” operation to an existing landscape business or pest control operation that services commercial type of customers. Due to the seasonality of the business, existing staff and employees could be utilized more efficiently on a year round basis. Conversely, this opportunity would lend itself well to the establishment of a full service landscape company which could evolve and be expanded from this existing base of operations.
